Summer’s Grand Finale

“When summer opens, I see how fast it matures and fear it will be short; but after the heats of July and August, I am reconciled, like one who has had his swing, to the cool of autumn.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson

We all look forward to the changing of the seasons. And while the heat brings a love of summer fun in the sun, the cooler breeze of fall slips in quietly somewhere between August and September, hinting at soft throw blankets, toasted s’mores, and shorter days to come.

How to Keep Clutter Off Your Kitchen Countertops

The kitchen is often the heart of the home, where meals are prepared, conversations happen, and memories are made. However, it can quickly become a clutter magnet, especially on the countertops. If you find your kitchen counters getting overwhelmed with stuff, it’s time to take action. Here are some practical tips to help you keep your kitchen countertops clutter-free and maintain a clean, organized space.

1. Designate Specific Zones

Assign specific areas of your countertops for particular tasks. For example, create a designated coffee station where you keep your coffee maker, mugs, and supplies. This way, you know exactly where everything belongs, reducing the chance of items being left out of place.

2. Limit Countertop Appliances

While it might be tempting to keep every appliance within arm’s reach, this can quickly lead to clutter. Only keep the appliances you use daily on the counter, like a toaster or a coffee maker. Store less frequently used appliances in cabinets or pantry shelves to free up space.

3. Use Trays and Baskets

Trays and baskets are excellent tools for organizing small items on your countertops. Use a tray to group together oil, salt, and pepper near the stove or a basket to hold mail and keys by the entryway. These organizing tools create a neat look and make it easier to clear the counters when needed.

4. Install Wall Storage

Take advantage of vertical space by installing shelves, hooks, or magnetic strips. Hanging utensils, knives, or even pots and pans can free up precious counter space and keep your kitchen essentials within easy reach. Wall-mounted spice racks are also a great way to reduce countertop clutter.

5. Clear the Counters Daily

Make it a habit to clear your countertops at the end of each day. Put away any items that don’t belong, wipe down surfaces, and ensure everything is in its designated place. This daily practice prevents clutter from piling up and keeps your kitchen looking fresh.

6. Declutter Regularly

Periodically go through your kitchen items and remove anything you don’t use or need. Donate or discard duplicate gadgets, expired food, and unused appliances. The less you have, the easier it is to keep your countertops clutter-free.

7. Create a Drop Zone

If your kitchen is where everyone drops their belongings when they come home, create a designated drop zone. This could be a small table or a section of the countertop where you place a basket for mail, keys, and other small items. Having a specific spot for these things can prevent them from spreading across your counters.

8. Use Under-Cabinet Storage

Consider adding under-cabinet shelves or racks to store items like paper towels, cookbooks, or cutting boards. This solution keeps these items handy without taking up counter space, helping you maintain a clean and organized kitchen.

Final Thoughts

Keeping your kitchen countertops clutter-free requires a bit of discipline and organization, but the results are well worth the effort. By implementing these tips, you can create a kitchen that’s not only functional but also a pleasure to spend time in. Whether you’re cooking a family meal or enjoying a cup of coffee, a clean countertop can make your kitchen a more enjoyable space.

Start small, be consistent, and watch how these simple changes can transform your kitchen into a clutter-free zone!

This review may be a little longwinded, but stellar service in the home-buying/selling process is deserving of a few extra words.

First and foremost, I cannot stress how incredibly fortunate I feel to have had Alan and his team in my corner for the purchase of my home in 2009 and the sale of it in 2024. Simply put, you cannot receive better service elsewhere, not to mention from a realtor who has been ranked at, or near the top in his field for well over 15 years.

I often describe my experience with Alan and his team as boutique-level service regardless of the price of the home you are buying or selling. You are NEVER pressured during the process and Alan ensures you are in the best position to make the most informed decisions possible. He is constantly reviewing current and historical data for the market and sharing his analysis of it with his clients.

What I believe truly sets Alan apart from the vast majority of realtors you will interact with during your lifetime is how humble he is with all of his clients. The longtime motto that has been printed on every piece of advertising material that I’ve seen from HomeGate Realty says “Service for life” and you soon begin to realize that it’s not just a slogan. If I were to remain in the area, I would only want Alan and his team to represent my real estate interests. If only he were licensed in every state I live…

I’m confident in saying that you cannot go wrong working with HomeGate Realty and I’ll even go so far as to say you’ll never find it difficult to recommend them to your closest friends and family.
