2. Working with an unlicensed contractor. Most home renovations will require permits, and an unlicensed contractor isn’t able to pull permits legally. Without permits, you could get fined or stuck with damage to your property from lousy handiwork.
3. Remodeling without a logical order. Strategize your workflow–think through the steps of your project.
4. Not budgeting for surprises. Prepare for surprises and delays, and build in at least a 20% cushion in your budget for unexpected issues.
